The semifinals in Chicago were completed without a full match. Garbine Muguruza reached the final without playing: the record against Marketa Vondrousova shows W/O. In the second semifinal, Ons Jabeur was leading 6-4 3-2 when her match with Elena Rybakina ended early after 52 minutes. In the final, Jabeur took the first set, but Muguruza took over from there: 3-6 6-3 6-0 in 97 minutes, and the title stayed with the Spaniard.
San Diego: Casper Ruud in 61 minutes
Both semifinals in San Diego went to three sets. Cameron Norrie came from behind against Andrey Rublev 3-6 6-3 6-4 in 117 minutes, while Casper Ruud spent 149 minutes on court against Grigor Dimitrov and won 6-4 4-6 6-4. The final was much shorter: Ruud took care of Norrie 6-0 6-2 in 61 minutes.
Sofia: Jannik Sinner in straight sets
In Sofia, Jannik Sinner got through the day without dropping a set. In the semifinal, he beat Filip Krajinovic 6-3 7-5 in 106 minutes, and in the final he overcame Gael Monfils 6-3 6-4 in 77 minutes. Thus, on September 27, 2021, three hard-court tournaments came to a close at once, and all the finals were played on the same calendar day as the semifinals.
