Inglis took the first set comfortably, 6-2. The second set proved a much tighter battle, with Astakhova hanging on until the closing stages, but the Australian closed out that set as well, 7-5.
Path through the draw and head-to-head
In the first round of qualifying, Inglis beat Xinxin Yao 6-1, 7-5, meaning she won both her Beijing matches by the same pattern: no losses in the opening set and 7-5 in the second. Before Beijing, she had suffered defeats to Storm Hunter at the US Open (3-6, 0-6) and to Taylah Preston in the final in Vancouver (6-7(5), 3-6).
