Yuhan Wang of China defeated Britain's Amelia Rajecki in the second round of the WTA 125 tournament in Jingshan. The hard-court match ended 6-4 3-6 7-6(1), according to api.tennis. The win sends Yuhan Wang through to the round of 16 at the $115,000 tournament. Rajecki had entered as the favorite: according to rank.tennis, she is ranked 377th with 168 points, while Yuhan Wang sits at 602nd with 73 points. Neither player was seeded.
Three sets and a swift finish
Yuhan Wang took the opening set 6-4. The British player then seized the initiative, winning the second 6-3 to force a decider. The match went all the way to a tiebreak in the third set, where there was little resistance. Yuhan Wang won it 7-1 to close out the match 2-1 in sets.
The victory extended a strong run of form for Yuhan Wang. At her previous tournament in Ma'anshan, she reached the final, crushing Yingqun Sun 6-0 6-2 in the quarterfinals and Daria Khomutianskaya 6-2 6-0 in the semifinals. In the title match, the Chinese player lost to Anna Kubareva.
Rajecki arrived in Jingshan with two wins already under her belt, beating Hiroko Kuwata 6-1 1-6 6-1 and Chengyiyi Yuan 6-3 7-5. Before that, she had lost in Nanao to Kurea Hayasaka 7-5 4-6 3-6. The head-to-head record now stands at 1-0 in favor of Yuhan Wang.
