French player Léolia Jeanjean, seeded fourth at the tournament in Adana, defeated Dutch player Suzan Lamens 4-6 6-3 6-2 in the round of 32 to reach the round of 16. The WTA 125 tournament is being played on hard courts with a prize fund of $115,000. Lamens is ranked 222nd with 338 points (rank.tennis).
The first set went to Lamens, who took it 6-4. The match then turned around as Jeanjean won the second set 6-3, and in the decider she conceded her opponent just two games to close out the win 6-2. Overall, the Frenchwoman won two sets out of three.
The same script for the second time
This was the pair's second career meeting, and Jeanjean has won both. The storyline repeated almost word for word: back in 2024, the Frenchwoman also lost the first set 4-6 before taking the next two, 6-4 and 6-2. The head-to-head now stands at 2-0 in her favor (api.tennis).
Before Adana, Jeanjean competed in Barranquilla, where she reached the semifinals. Along the way she beat Julieta Pareja 7-6(5) 3-6 6-3 and Carol Young Suh Lee 6-1 7-6(4), before falling to Claire Liu in the semifinal, 2-6 4-6. Lamens, meanwhile, had previously played in Sao Paulo, defeating Carolina Alves (3-6 7-6(2) 6-2) and Solana Sierra (6-3 6-2), before losing to Nadia Podoroska in the quarterfinal, 6-7(5) 6-3 3-6.
