October 14: Agassi won Madrid, Lendl the WCT Finals in Naples

On this day in 2002, Andre Agassi won the Madrid Masters, while in 1982 Ivan Lendl won the WCT Finals in Naples. We look back at the semifinal and final results, according to api.tennis.

On October 14, 2002, Jiří Novák beat Fabrice Santoro in the semifinals on the hard courts at the Madrid Masters: 6-2, 6-4. The match lasted 67 minutes. In the other semifinal, Andre Agassi defeated Sébastien Grosjean: 6-4, 3-6, 6-4. That match lasted 100 minutes.

The final between Agassi and Novák ended without a match being played. api.tennis lists Agassi as the winner, with a W/O result.

On October 14, 1982, Ivan Lendl beat Johan Kriek in the semifinals on the carpet courts at the WCT Finals in Naples: 6-4, 6-4, 7-5. In the other semifinal, Wojciech Fibak defeated Tomáš Šmíd: 6-1, 6-3, 5-7, 6-1.

Lendl faced Fibak in the final and won 6-4, 6-2, 6-1. Lendl finished both the semifinal and the final without dropping a set.
