Biography

Abhilasha Bista is a tennis player from Nepal, born on 3 June 2003. She plays right-handed and prefers hard courts. She picked up a racket at the age of seven, when she was studying at St. Xavier’s School: at first she trained in school classes and played with her brother. She began competing in international events at about the age of 11. At her first tournament in Malaysia she won two bronze medals, in singles under 12 and in doubles. She then went through the under-14, under-16 and under-18 age categories, and at 16 she rose to about No. 400 in the ITF junior world rankings. The COVID-19 pandemic interrupted regular competition and limited her progress in the game. In national tennis Bista became one of the leading sportswomen of Nepal. At the 2019 South Asian Games she won a bronze medal; in the quarterfinal of the doubles event with Ira Rawat she defeated players from Pakistan. Later Bista represented Nepal at international ITF tournaments, including in singles and doubles, and also competed at the 2022 Asian Games, held in 2023. Her career highs in the WTA rankings are No. 1358 in singles and No. 1191 in doubles. She has no WTA titles; the WTA statistics record 0 wins and 0 losses in title finals.
