Biography
Alexandra Eala was born on May 23, 2005, in Quezon City (Philippines). She is left-handed, hits a two-handed backhand, and stands 173 cm tall. She started playing tennis at the age of four and trained at the Rafael Nadal Academy in Manacor (Spain), which she completed in 2023.
As a junior, she rose to No. 2 in the ITF junior rankings (October 2020), won the girls' singles title at the 2022 US Open (defeating Lucie Havlickova in the final), and won the girls' doubles titles at the 2020 Australian Open and the 2021 Roland Garros, becoming the first player from the Philippines to achieve such a win.
She began her professional career in 2020. In 2022 she won an ITF W25 title in Chiang Rai, in 2023 a W25 in Roehampton, and in 2024 a W100 in Vitoria-Gasteiz (five ITF singles titles in total, according to reports). 2025 became her breakthrough year: on a wild card at the WTA 1000 tournament in Miami she beat Jelena Ostapenko, Madison Keys and Iga Swiatek to reach the semifinal, a first for a Filipina at this level, where she lost to Jessica Pegula. She entered the top 100 for the first time (March 2025), and reached the final of the WTA 250 in Eastbourne and the final of the WTA 125 in Guadalajara.
The 2026 season became the best of her career: a WTA 125 title in Birmingham, a win over Iga Swiatek at Wimbledon and a run to the fourth round, a first for a Filipina at a Grand Slam tournament, and in August her first WTA title came in Washington (a WTA 500 tournament), where she beat Jessica Pegula in the final: Eala became the first Filipina champion of a WTA tournament.
