Biography
Brenda Fruhvirtova was born on 2 April 2007 in Prague, Czech Republic. She plays right-handed and uses a two-handed backhand; her height is listed as 170 cm in the academy profile. She began playing tennis in childhood, and from 2017 she trained in France. In junior tennis Fruhvirtova made herself known early: in 2019 she helped the Czech team win the ITF under-14 team final, and also won the doubles tournament Les Petits As. In 2020 she won the Les Petits As singles tournament in Tarbes at the age of 12 and became the youngest champion in the competition's history; a year earlier the same title had been won by her older sister Linda. In the ITF junior ranking Brenda rose to No. 4. Her professional debut at ITF tournaments took place in January 2022. In March of the same year in Tucumán she won her first adult title at a W25 tournament, beating Carolina Alves in the final. At that time Fruhvirtova was one of the youngest winners of a tournament of this level in recent years. The 2022 season was a breakthrough: she posted a record of 50 wins and 9 losses and won eight ITF tournaments. In 2023 Fruhvirtova played in the main draw of a Grand Slam tournament for the first time, coming through qualifying at the Australian Open. In her debut match she lost to Aliaksandra Sasnovich. At Roland Garros she also came through qualifying, but lost in the first round to Elena Rybakina. In 2024 she achieved her first wins in Grand Slam main draws: she reached the second round of the Australian Open, where she lost to the eventual champion Aryna Sabalenka, and the second round of Wimbledon, losing to Paula Badosa. In July 2024 she rose to a career high, No. 87 in the WTA ranking. In all, Fruhvirtova has 15 ITF singles titles; she has not yet won WTA singles titles.
