Biography
Emma Navarro was born on May 18, 2001, in New York. She is right-handed and stands 170 cm tall. She grew up in Charleston, South Carolina, and played her first professional tournaments there.
As a junior, she reached the singles final of the 2019 French Open, losing to Canada's Leylah Fernandez, and won the same tournament in doubles with Chloe Beck. She played for the University of Virginia: in 2021, losing only one match all season, she became the NCAA singles champion, a victory that earned her a wild card into the US Open, where she made her Grand Slam debut. She played one more season for Virginia before turning professional in 2022.
In 2023, at the French Open, using a wild card, she claimed her first Grand Slam main draw win, defeating Erika Andreeva, and reached the semifinals in Bad Homburg. 2024 proved to be a breakthrough year: her first WTA title in Hobart, a win over Aryna Sabalenka in the quarterfinals of the thousand-level event in Indian Wells (the first American to beat a top-two player since 2001), her first career Grand Slam semifinal at the US Open, and a new career-high ranking of No. 8. At the end of the season, the WTA named her the Most Improved Player of the Year.
She won her second WTA title in Merida in 2025, and her third in Strasbourg in 2026, where she also picked up her 100th tour-level win; that same year, she also reached the final in Nottingham.
