Biography
Emma Van Poppel was born on 1 February 2001 in the Netherlands, plays right-handed and is listed in the Billie Jean King Cup player database as a representative of her country. She made her senior debut in autumn 2019, starting right away with long trips: she played her first ITF tournaments in South Africa, in Johannesburg and Pretoria, and then went on to Nigeria, Guatemala and Mexico. Such a nomadic route became customary for her: in later seasons the Dutchwoman played in Egypt, Tunisia, India, Bulgaria, Poland, Burundi, Botswana, as well as in French Guiana and the Antilles. Doubles fairly quickly became her main specialization: her singles results remained modest, while in doubles she regularly reached quarterfinals and semifinals. Van Poppel changed partners often, among them players from India, France, Italy and Switzerland, but from the start of 2026 she has had a regular partner, New Zealander Jade Otway: in spring the two played the South African swing in Pretoria and Mbombela and played more than ten matches in a row. The Dutchwoman's career-high WTA doubles ranking is No. 624, reached on 22 June 2026; in singles she rose to No. 1107 in March 2024.
