Biography

Jaime Faria was born on August 6, 2003, in Lisbon. He is right-handed and stands 188 cm tall. He came to tennis relatively late, getting hooked on the game after watching veterans' matches in the Algarve, and began his professional career in 2021. He won his first titles in the summer of 2022 in Castelo Branco, taking the ITF singles and doubles titles back to back.

In 2024, he won a series of three consecutive ITF tournaments in the Algarve (Faro, Quinta do Lago, Vila Real de Santo António), made his ATP main draw debut at the Estoril tournament, and claimed his first Challenger title in Oeiras, adding a second in Curitiba that autumn.

In January 2025, he reached a Grand Slam main draw for the first time, at the Australian Open, where he beat Pavel Kotov in the first round before losing to Novak Djokovic in the second. In February, he reached the quarterfinal of the 500-level event in Rio de Janeiro after entering the draw as a lucky loser, and repeated the result a week later in Santiago, both of which were his first ATP quarterfinals. On February 24, 2025, he broke into the top 100 of the rankings for the first time.

In 2026, he established himself on tour: a third round at the French Open (a five-set loss to Frances Tiafoe), a second round at Wimbledon, and a Masters 1000 debut in Madrid. At the US Open, he beat Jenson Brooksby in five sets, becoming the third Portuguese player to win a main draw match at all four Slams, but he fell in the second round to defending champion Carlos Alcaraz. In Cincinnati, he claimed his first win over a top-10 player, defeating Ben Shelton. As of August 24, 2026, he had climbed to 70th in the rankings, his personal best.
