Biography
Katie Volynets was born on December 31, 2001, in Walnut Creek, California. She is right-handed and 170 cm tall. She has been competing on the pro tour since 2017.
In 2019, she won the USTA junior championship in the girls' under-18 category and, having received a wild card, made her main-draw debut at the US Open, losing in the first round to future champion Bianca Andreescu. At the adult level, she has claimed two ITF titles, in Bonita Springs (2021) and Palm Harbor (2022), against one lost final; in 2022 she reached the second round of a Grand Slam tournament for the first time, at Roland Garros.
The spring of 2023 proved to be a breakthrough: after coming through qualifying, she reached the third round of the Australian Open, defeating world number nine Veronika Kudermetova, the best result of her career at the Slams, and broke into the top 100 of the singles ranking. In June 2024, she claimed her first WTA 125 title, in Makarska.
In 2025, she played in two WTA 125 finals, in Oeiras and Suzhou, losing both times. In 2026, she reached the semifinal in Ostrava, where she lost to Katie Boulter, won a WTA 125 doubles title in the Hall of Fame Open with Irina Shymanovich, and in August claimed her second singles WTA 125 title, in Philadelphia. In total, Volynets has 2 WTA 125 singles titles and 3 lost finals to her name; her best singles ranking is 56th (July 29, 2024).
