Luisa Stefani

Biography

Luisa Stefani was born on August 9, 1997 in São Paulo. Right-handed, 168 cm tall. She started playing at the age of ten; at 14 her family moved to the United States, where she trained at the Saddlebrook tennis academy in Florida, and later enrolled at Pepperdine University, studying advertising and playing for the university team, reaching the singles semifinal of the 2016 NCAA Championship and being named ITA Rookie of the Year in 2015.

From 2013 she played on the ITF circuit, but from 2019 she focused on doubles after a successful debut in Monterrey with Giuliana Olmos. Her best singles ranking was 431 (May 2019); her subsequent career was built almost entirely around doubles.

She claimed her first WTA title in Tashkent in 2019 with Hayley Carter, and with the same partner reached the quarterfinal of the 2020 US Open. In 2021, with Gabriela Dabrowski, she won the WTA 1000 tournament in Montreal and rose to No. 9 in the doubles rankings, but suffered a serious knee injury at the US Open. That same year, with Laura Pigossi, she won bronze at the Tokyo Olympics, the first Olympic medal in Brazilian tennis history.

After recovering, in 2023 she won the mixed doubles title at the Australian Open with Rafael Matos, becoming part of the first Brazilian pair to win a Grand Slam tournament, and with Caroline Garcia she claimed the WTA 500 title in Berlin. In 2024, with Demi Schuurs, she won the 1000-level event in Doha. She spent the 2025 season with Tímea Babos, winning four titles and reaching the final of the WTA Finals.

In 2026 she renewed her partnership with Dabrowski: a win at the 1000-level event in Dubai, titles in Strasbourg and Eastbourne, and a Wimbledon final, her first career Grand Slam final in women's doubles. In September 2026 she became the first Brazilian player in history to reach No. 3 in the doubles rankings. In total, Stefani has won 16 WTA main tour titles and three WTA 125 titles.
