Biography

Luna Maria Cinalli was born on June 10, 2008 in Rosario and grew up in the village of Ricardone in Santa Fe province, home to about 4,600 people. A right-hander, she plays a one-handed backhand, rare on the women's tour, having switched from a two-handed grip before she turned twelve. She first stepped onto a court at the age of four at the local Casa Tenis Ricardone school. She stood out quickly among juniors, becoming the country's No. 1 ranked player in the under-14 category and winning the South American team championship, and at 14 years, 3 months and 18 days she became one of the youngest Argentine players ever to win a professional ITF tournament. In the ITF junior rankings she climbed as high as No. 19 (March 10, 2025) and was the top-ranked South American in her age group. In 2025 she competed in the junior French Open, where she defeated Mika Buchnik, Sonia Zhenikhova and Ruoyun Zhang to reach the quarterfinals; that same season she claimed a J300 title. Earlier, she became the first Argentine tennis player of her generation to reach the junior draw of the Australian Open. Since 2025 she has been gradually transitioning to the adult tour, playing tournaments with prize funds ranging from 15,000 to 50,000 dollars, and has already made her debut in the WTA rankings.
