Madison Keys

Biography

Madison Keys was born on February 17, 1995 in Rock Island (Illinois, USA). Right-handed, height 178 cm. She became interested in tennis at age four after watching Venus Williams play at Wimbledon on television, and from age nine trained at the Chris Evert Academy in Boca Raton, Florida. She turned professional on her 14th birthday in February 2009 and soon became one of the youngest players to win a WTA Tour match; in the ITF junior rankings she climbed as high as 16th.

She started out on ITF tournaments, where she claimed three singles titles. In 2015 she reached her first Grand Slam semifinal at the Australian Open, and the following season made her debut in the world's top ten. In 2017 she reached the US Open final, where she lost to Sloane Stephens.

After several years of injuries and inconsistent results, the breakthrough came: in January 2025 Keys won the Australian Open, beating world number two Iga Swiatek and world number one Aryna Sabalenka in succession, her first and so far only Grand Slam title. A few weeks later she rose to fifth in the singles rankings, a career-high.

Today Keys has 10 WTA singles titles to her name: she won Eastbourne three times (2014, 2023, 2026), Adelaide twice (2022, 2025), as well as Cincinnati (2019), Charleston (2019) and Strasbourg (2024). Her best results at other Slams are the 2017 US Open final, the 2018 Roland Garros semifinal, and the 2015 Wimbledon quarterfinal. She currently holds the world ranking of number 23.
