Biography
Maia Ilinca Burcescu was born on November 26, 2009 in Romania. She plays right-handed. She started playing tennis at the age of five and competes mainly on ITF tournaments, where she has so far won one title, in doubles.
In 2025 she made her debut in junior Grand Slam tournaments. At the Australian Open, in singles she won her first round against Alana Subasic but lost in the second round to Hannah Klugman; in doubles with Anamaria Oane she reached the quarterfinals. At Roland Garros she made it into the main draw through qualifying, beat Maya Iyengar in the first round but lost in the second to Alena Kovackova; in doubles with Luna Vujovic she reached the quarterfinals.
On the pro tour she won the doubles title at the ITF W15 in Bucharest in 2025 with Monika Stankiewicz. In singles she has climbed to as high as No. 804 in the ranking (May 4, 2026), which is the best result of her career.
