Naoki Tajima

Biography

Naoki Tajima was born on 21 September 2000 in Kumamoto. Until 2018 he played on the junior circuit: he reached the quarterfinals of Wimbledon in 2017 in the boys' singles, and in doubles he won the 2018 junior Roland Garros with Ondřej Štyler without dropping a set during the tournament. That same year, with Yuki Naito, he won the gold medal in doubles at the Youth Olympic Games in Buenos Aires, and with Rinky Hijikata he reached the semifinals of junior Wimbledon.

He made his professional debut in 2017 at low-level ITF tournaments. He won his first doubles titles in 2019, the year in which he also reached three singles semifinals. He reached his career-high singles ranking of 603 in January 2021. At the turn of 2021 and 2022 he won three tournaments in a row in doubles and entered the top five hundred.

He subsequently concentrated on doubles: in 2023–2024 he won ITF titles in Caloundra and Doha. Over the course of his career he has played about fifty singles matches at lower-level tournaments, and has reached two finals (Anning 2019, Kouvola 2021), but without winning.
