Biography
Vasil Kirkov was born on March 13, 1999, in Asenovgrad, Bulgaria, and later obtained American citizenship. He is right-handed. As a junior, he reached the doubles final of the 2017 French Open and rose to 13th place in the ITF junior rankings.
In 2016, he received a wild card into the US Open qualifying draw, having reached the final of the US national junior championship in Kalamazoo. In 2017, he made his Grand Slam main draw debut in doubles at the US Open, partnering Danny Thomas.
In singles, he won two ITF titles (Cancun in 2019, Tallahassee in 2021) and reached his career-high ranking of 439th in November 2021. He then focused on doubles: his first Challenger title came in 2023 in Santa Fe with Chilean Matias Soto, followed by another in Salinas with Alfredo Perez. In the fall of that year, he reached the third round of the US Open in doubles with Denis Kudla.
The 2025 season proved to be a breakthrough: three consecutive Challenger titles in Latin America (Santiago, Asuncion, Concepcion) with Soto, further titles in Asia including Wuxi, and two ATP Tour finals, in Chengdu and Stockholm, both times with Dutchman Bart Stevens and both times ending in defeat. In August 2026, he rose to a career-high 49th place in the doubles rankings; as of September 14, 2026, he stands at 50th.
