China Open

About the tournament

Beijing is a tennis tournament known as the China Open, held since 1993; it was not played from 1998 to 2003 and was revived in 2004. The men's event holds ATP 500 status and is played on outdoor hard courts. In 2006, the China Open became the first tournament outside the United States where the Hawk-Eye system was officially used in matches. The tournament's record holder in men's singles is Novak Djokovic, who has won it six times (2009, 2010, 2012-2015). Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the event was not held from 2020 to 2022. A WTA 1000 women's tournament also takes place in Beijing at the same time, making the China Open one of the tour's highest-earning events: the prize money in 2025 totaled around $4 million for the men and nearly $9 million for the women.
