Pontevedra

About the tournament

M15 Pontevedra is a lower-tier men's M15 tournament within the ITF World Tennis Tour, held in the Spanish city of Pontevedra (Galicia). The competition is hosted by Club de Tenis Pontevedra, a family tennis club founded in 1974 that hosts international junior and professional ITF tournaments every year. The tournament, also known as the Pontevedra International Open, was first organised in October 2024 and became part of the men's ITF circuit governed by the International Tennis Federation, with prize money of about 20,000 dollars and ATP ranking points. Since several numbered tournaments of this category are played on the same courts during the season, it is a competition "hub" rather than a separate one-off event. Such tournaments at the lowest tier of men's professional tennis mainly attract young players starting their careers, as well as ATP ranking veterans outside the top 500, who use the M15 to collect points and gain match practice. The surface is hard and play takes place on outdoor courts, although the club also has indoor courts for training and other competitions. The organisers state plans to raise the tournament's category to M25 in the future, which points to the development of the club's infrastructure and a growing interest in tennis in the region.
