About the tournament
M25 Kigali is a men's tournament of the M25 category in the ITF World Tennis Tour system, held in the capital of Rwanda on the courts of the tennis club Kicukiro Ecology Tennis Club. The tournament is known as the "Rwanda Open M25" and has been included in the ITF calendar regularly since 2023, being one of the few professional tennis events in East Africa. The competition is held on an outdoor clay surface, which is typical of the African continent and allows events to be staged at relatively low cost compared with tournaments in Europe. The level of the participants is players from the end of the second and the third hundred of the ATP world ranking, as well as promising young players earning their first professional points; the tournament actively attracts both local Rwandan athletes through the wild-card system and players from different regions of Africa, Europe and Asia. The M25 category occupies the lower-middle level of the men's ITF professional ladder, located between the entry-level M15 and the more prestigious Challenger tournaments; notably, in the same Kigali on the same courts, tournaments of the ATP Challenger Tour series are also held, which makes the city a notable point of concentration of professional tennis in the region. The tournament is organised by the Rwanda Tennis Federation, which has its headquarters in Kigali.
