About the tournament
M25 Kigali is a men's tournament in the M25 category of the ITF World Tennis Tour, held in the capital of Rwanda at the courts of the Kicukiro Ecology Tennis Club. The tournament is known as the "Rwanda Open M25" and has been regularly included in the ITF calendar since 2023, making it one of the few professional tennis events in East Africa. The competition is played on outdoor clay courts, which is typical for the African continent and allows events to be held at relatively low costs compared to tournaments in Europe. The level of participants includes players ranked in the late 200s and 300s of the ATP world rankings, as well as promising young tennis players earning their first professional points; the tournament actively attracts both local Rwandan athletes through the wild card system and players from various regions of Africa, Europe, and Asia. The M25 category occupies the lower-middle tier of the men's professional ITF ladder, positioned between the entry-level M15 and the more prestigious Challenger tournaments; notably, ATP Challenger Tour events are also held in the same Kigali at the same courts, making the city a notable hub of professional tennis concentration in the region. The tournament is organized by the Rwanda Tennis Federation, headquartered in Kigali.
