About the tournament
M15 Baku is a men's entry-level professional tournament on the ITF World Tennis Tour, held in the Azerbaijani capital Baku on outdoor hard courts. The M15 category sits at the bottom rung of the ITF professional ladder: prize money is minimal, and the field is made up mostly of young players with no ATP ranking or one near the bottom of the list, as well as tour veterans picking up points to qualify for the main draws of higher-level tournaments. Like many cities in the post-Soviet space and the Middle East, Baku regularly hosts several numbered editions of the series back to back during the season at the same venue - this is convenient for organizers from a logistical standpoint and allows players who have traveled a long way to compete in several tournaments in a row without lengthy trips in between. This "cluster" format is typical of the calendar for lower-tier ITF tournaments: it reduces participants' travel costs and lets the host club make efficient use of its infrastructure over consecutive weeks.
