About the tournament
M15 Forbach is a lower-tier men's professional tournament on the ITF World Tennis Tour, held regularly in the city of Forbach in eastern France, near the border with Germany. The M15 category is the entry level of the professional ladder: prize money of around 15,000 US dollars, with points earned here counting toward the ATP ranking and opening the way to higher-level tournaments—the Challenger Tour and, eventually, the ATP Tour. A distinctive feature of the Forbach hub is that several numbered editions are held in a row on the same courts within a single season—a typical practice for indoor tournaments that are inexpensive to organize, allowing the club and federation to make efficient use of infrastructure and off-season calendar windows. Matches are played indoors on carpet, a type of surface traditionally used in Europe for tournaments falling in the autumn-winter period, when outdoor clay and hard courts are of little use. The level of participants includes players at the start of their careers and those in the lower part of the world ATP ranking, often representatives of France, Germany and neighboring countries, using the tournament to gain points and match practice. Up-to-date information on specific editions can be found on the official ITF portal.
