About the tournament
M25 Setúbal is a men's ITF M25 category tournament regularly held in the Portuguese city of Setúbal, on the coast south of Lisbon. The competition is hosted by Clube de Ténis de Setúbal, a local tennis club with several outdoor hard courts, which organizes the tournament with the support of the Setúbal municipality. The tournament is also known as the "Setúbal Open" and has been held annually for more than ten consecutive years, making it a hub venue where tournaments from different years are successively played on the same courts. The surface is outdoor hard, a typical choice for the southern European climate, which allows competitions to be held in the warm season without the risk of rain characteristic of clay tournaments. The prize money level (around 25 thousand dollars) places the tournament on the lower rung of the ITF professional ladder, where young players starting their careers compete alongside experienced players outside the world's top 200 who are gathering points to improve their ATP ranking positions. Tournaments of this level in Portugal traditionally attract participants from neighboring Spain and France thanks to convenient logistics and relatively low organizational costs compared to higher-status Challenger tournaments. The club also occasionally hosts other international ITF competitions, including a wheelchair tennis tournament.
