Trelew

About the tournament

W15 Trelew is a women's W15 category tennis hub (the lowest professional level of the ITF World Tennis Tour) in the city of Trelew, Chubut Province, Argentine Patagonia. The tournaments are held on the courts of the Trelew Tennis Club, known as the "Giant of Patagonia" the venue features both indoor and outdoor hard courts. Over the course of a season, several numbered tournaments are traditionally held back to back (usually two, a week apart), which is typical for remote regions of the ITF calendar: it is more cost-effective for organizers to invite foreign participants for two events at once, in order to justify the expense of a long flight to Patagonia. The competitions are held with the support of the Municipality of Trelew, the Government of Chubut Province, and the Argentine Tennis Association through the local association ASOTENECH. The level of the participants corresponds to the early professional tier, often players ranked in the third to fifth hundred of the WTA world rankings, as well as young South American and North American players earning their first ranking points. In addition to the women's W15, the same club also hosts a men's M15 tournament, making Trelew one of the key tennis centers of the Patagonian region. Coverage is provided through the municipality's website and local media.
