Maanshan

About the tournament

W15 Maanshan is a women's tournament of the ITF professional tour in the W50 category, held in the city of Ma'anshan in China's Anhui Province. The W50 category occupies an intermediate position in the ITF Women's World Tennis Tour system: above the basic W15/W25, but below the top W75/W100 tournaments, so the main draw usually features players from the second to third hundred of the WTA world rankings, as well as young Chinese players earning ranking points on home courts. In recent seasons Ma'anshan has become one of the Chinese tennis hubs: several tournaments of different levels are held here in a row within compressed calendar windows (in particular, events of the M15 and W35 categories appear in parallel or consecutively on the same courts), which is typical of China, where clubs and the federation organise compact series of tournaments for the convenience of logistics for foreign players and to save on venue rental. The tournament is played on an indoor hard surface; indoor arenas allow competitions to be held regardless of season and weather conditions, which is especially valuable in the off-season. Current information about the editions is published on the official ITF portal and in live-score systems (Flashscore, Sofascore and similar).
