Sharm ElSheikh

About the tournament

W35 Sharm El Sheikh is a women's ITF World Tennis Tour tournament in the W35 category, held regularly in the Egyptian resort city of Sharm El Sheikh on the Red Sea coast. It is one of the hub tournaments: several numbered events are played one after another on the local courts over the course of the season (around ten in total within this category), which is typical for venues with a mild climate and relatively low organizational costs. Egypt has remained for many years one of the key regions of the winter and spring calendar for the lower tier of the women's professional tour. Matches are traditionally played on outdoor hard courts. The W35 category occupies an early-to-intermediate level on the ITF professional ladder (above W15, below W50/W60 and the WTA level): it features young players building up ranking points, as well as experienced competitors outside the world's top 300-400 who use the Sharm El Sheikh tournaments to gain steady match practice. Besides W35 events, W15 tournaments are also held in the same city on similar courts. Sharm El Sheikh effectively serves as one of the venues of the Egyptian series, alongside Cairo and Giza, where players travel in stretches to minimize travel costs. Up-to-date information on each specific event is published on the official ITF website.
