Seville

About the tournament

W35 Seville is a women's tournament of the professional ITF World Tennis Tour in the W35 category, held in Seville, in southern Spain. The W35 category belongs to the lower-middle segment of the women's professional ladder, located between the entry-level tournaments (W15) and the more prestigious W50/W60 and above; the prize money of such a tournament is usually 35 thousand US dollars, and it mainly features players ranked in the third to fifth hundred of the WTA world rankings, as well as young players earning ranking points and experienced professionals returning from injuries or a loss of form. The tournament is played on outdoor clay courts — a surface traditional for southern Spain and typical of most local ITF and Challenger tournaments. Spain in general and Andalusia in particular are among the regions with the densest calendar of lower-level professional tournaments thanks to the mild climate, which allows competitions to be held almost all year round, the well-developed tennis infrastructure and the comparatively low cost of organising such tournaments. Judging by the numbering of the editions (three tournaments within a short span of years), this is a series of consecutive tournaments at the same venue — a common practice for Spanish tennis clubs, which during a season host several numbered ITF editions in a row, which is convenient both for organisers and for players coming to the region for a series of tournaments. The specific host club and the official pages of the tournament could not be reliably established from open sources.
