Yecla

About the tournament

W50 Yecla is a women's tournament in the ITF World Tennis Tour series, category W50, held in the city of Yecla (province of Murcia, Spain). The competition is hosted by Yecla Club de Tenis, a local tennis club, on outdoor hard courts. The tournament, also known as the international women's open championship "Ciudad de Yecla," annually attracts players of a high caliber for the grassroots level, including tennis players from the WTA top-300 ranking, and the prize fund of the W50 category (about 50 thousand dollars) makes it a notable event in the regional part of the season. The organization is supported by the Yecla municipality, the Murcia Region Tennis Federation, and the Royal Spanish Tennis Federation, which view the tournament as a way to attract tourism and promote the sporting image of the city. The W50 category occupies an intermediate position on the ITF professional ladder, above the basic W15/W25 tournaments, but below the top W60-W100 and, even more so, WTA competitions, which is why players recovering from injuries, young promising tennis players, and experienced professionals consolidating their ranking often compete here. Coverage of the tournament is mainly conducted by local Yecla sports media and official ITF pages; no separate permanent website or social media specifically for the tournament could be found.
