About the tournament

W35 Edgbaston is a tournament of the women's professional ITF World Tennis Tour series in the W35 category, held in the city of Birmingham (Great Britain). The W35 category belongs to the lower-middle segment of the ITF professional ladder: it sits above the entry-level W15/W25 tournaments, but noticeably below the elite W100 and WTA main-draw tournaments. Such competitions feature mainly players outside the top 300 of the world ranking, young professionals earning ranking points, as well as experienced players recovering from injuries or holding their position in the ranking between higher-level tournaments. Matches are played on indoor hard courts — the winter indoor format is typical for the British calendar at the start of the year, when outdoor venues in Northern Europe are unplayable. In Birmingham, several consecutive numbered tournaments are usually organised in one season (in this case two editions are recorded), which is typical for ITF "hubs": it is advantageous for organisers to hold a series of tournaments at the same venue, saving on logistics, officiating and court rental, and for players to take part in several tournaments in a row without long journeys. The specific host club and details of the participants by year have not been established with sufficient reliability, and the official website and social media of the tournament could not be confirmed during verification either.
