Székesfehérvár

About the tournament

W15 Székesfehérvár is a tournament of the lower stage of women's professional tennis, held in the Hungarian city of Székesfehérvár indoors on clay courts. The W15 category is the entry step of the ITF World Tennis Tour professional ladder, with prize money of around 15,000 dollars; such tournaments give young players, recent graduates of the junior tour, a chance to earn their first WTA ranking points, as well as players recovering from injuries or seeking steady playing practice regardless of the season. Holding events indoors makes it possible to organise competitions regardless of weather conditions, which is especially convenient for the Central European calendar in the off-season and in periods of unsettled weather. As a rule, tournaments of this level in Hungary are held by clubs with developed infrastructure, able to host qualifying and the main draw relatively inexpensively — this is one of the reasons why the country regularly hosts several W15 tournaments during the season. The field is usually made up of players from among the first several hundred of the world rankings, as well as promising youngsters from Hungary and neighbouring countries. No reliable information on an official website, logo or social media pages of the tournament could be found — coverage is probably limited to the page on the ITF website.
