Santa Margherita di Pula

About the tournament

W25 Santa Margherita di Pula is a women's professional tournament of the ITF World Tennis Tour series in the W25 category, regularly held in the resort village of Santa Margherita di Pula in the south of Sardinia (Italy). It is a classic example of a "hub" tournament: on the local clay courts, during the season (usually in September–October, and in some years additionally in spring), several numbered tournaments of various categories — from W10/W15 to W25 and W35 — are played one after another, so the total number of recorded editions at this venue noticeably exceeds the number of calendar years. Such a density of tournaments is typical for the seaside resorts of Italy and Spain: the mild Mediterranean climate in autumn and spring, well-developed club infrastructure and the comparatively low cost of organisation allow the host side to stage whole "blocks" of competitions in a row, which is convenient for both organisers and players, who can spend several weeks in a row in one place without long journeys. The level of the W25 participants is mainly players from the world top 300–600, as well as young Italian players who use home tournaments to earn ranking points; among former participants there are also more famous players in a period of restoring their ranking. The surface throughout the tournament's history has been outdoor clay, traditional for Italian competitions of this level. No separate official website or social media accounts specifically for this series of tournaments could be found; up-to-date information about each specific edition is published on the official ITF portal.
