Monastir

About the tournament

W15 Monastir is one of the busiest "hubs" of women's professional tennis at the lowest tier of the ITF World Tennis Tour: throughout the season, a whole series of numbered W15-category tournaments (the minimum prize money level of the adult ITF professional tour) is regularly held in Monastir, Tunisia. The venue is the Monastir tennis club at the Magic Hotels resort complex in the Skanès-Monastir area, whose courts also host higher-category tournaments (W35, W50, W60), and this series has also given rise to the WTA 250 Jasmin Open and the ATP Challenger Monastir Open. The surface is outdoor hard courts. The reason for concentrating so many tournaments here is the mild Mediterranean climate, which allows tennis to be played almost year-round, the low cost of organization and accommodation, and the ready-made infrastructure of the hotel complex, which gives the federation and organizers the ability to schedule several editions of the same category back to back with almost no break. These tournaments traditionally feature young players at the entry-level professional stage, as well as Tunisian and North African players who use home tournaments to accumulate ranking points. No dedicated permanent website or social media presence specifically for the W15 Monastir series has been identified; information on specific editions is published on the official ITF website.
