About the tournament

W15 Belém is a women's professional tennis tournament of the entry level ITF Tour category (W15), held in the city of Belém, the capital of the Brazilian state of Pará, in the north of the country. Tournaments of this level serve as a starting platform for young tennis players, as well as those recovering from injuries or working their way into the WTA world ranking: the minimum prize money and small tournament draws make W15 events feasible to organize even in regions that are not traditional tennis centers of Brazil. Judging by the practice of holding ITF tournaments in this city, the venue is the Assembleia Paraense club, which previously hosted a men's tournament of a similar level (M15) in the same series. Competitions of this caliber appeared in Belém's calendar relatively recently, after a long break, and are organized by the local tennis federation of the state of Pará as a way to develop tennis in the region and attract world ranking points for local and visiting players. The surface and exact court configuration may vary from year to year, since local clubs often refurbish the venues between seasons. No official separate website or social media accounts specifically for W15 Belém could be found: information about the tournament is published mainly on the official ITF portal and in local Brazilian sports media.
