Varna

About the tournament

W15 Varna is a grassroots-level women's professional tennis tournament that is part of the ITF World Tennis Tour, category W15 (prize money of about $15,000 US). It is held in the city of Varna on the Black Sea coast of Bulgaria, on outdoor clay courts. Judging by the calendar, several numbered editions in a row are organized in Varna at the same venue across different seasons — this is a typical practice for entry-level ITF tournaments, when it is advantageous for organizers to hold a series of tournaments of the same grade one after another: logistics, officiating, and court rental costs are reduced, and it allows players to compete in several tournaments in a row without lengthy travel. The level of the participants corresponds to the W15 category — these are mostly young tennis players just starting out on the professional path, junior players from the world's top 100 ranking (for whom, according to ITF rules, places in the main draw at tournaments of this level are reserved), as well as players recovering from injuries or building up their ranking at the lower end of the professional ladder. The surface in Varna is consistently clay, which is typical for the summer-autumn Eastern European season. No official website, dedicated social media accounts, or logo specific to the tournament could be found — information about the editions is available through the general ITF calendar.
