Santa Margherita di Pula

About the tournament

W35 Santa Margherita di Pula is a regular hub of the women's ITF Tour held in the resort village of the same name in southern Sardinia (Italy). On the local clay courts, several numbered editions of the same category are held back to back during the season, which is typical for ITF "tournament factories": thanks to a compact schedule, running several tournaments in a row allows organizers to make efficient use of infrastructure and attract players from all over Europe within a convenient "window" in the calendar. The venue is the tennis complex of the ASD Fortevillage resort club, located right on the coast — the mild Mediterranean climate and well-developed hotel infrastructure make this a convenient location for hosting a series of tournaments in succession, especially during the off-season and at the start of the European clay-court season. The W35 category belongs to the lower-to-mid segment of the professional ITF World Tennis Tour ladder: it features players outside the WTA top 200 — young players accumulating ranking points, as well as experienced professionals recovering from injuries or consolidating their ranking position. The surface across all known editions has been outdoor clay, with no change of court type from year to year.
