About the tournament

J300 Wanju (Closed Asian Regional Championship, J300) is a young junior tournament of the top category J300, held in the South Korean city of Wanju on outdoor hard courts. The event appeared in the ITF calendar only recently: the first editions were held starting in 2024, and at the moment the tournament has only a few editions, which makes its history compact but already marked by an interesting event. The tournament is among the closed regional championships of the Asia-Oceania zone, meaning that participation is restricted to representatives of a particular region, which traditionally raises the competitiveness and status of such events within the ITF junior system. Despite the tournament's youth, its winners already include the Australian Emerson Jones, who defeated the Korean player Yujin Kim in the final 6:3, 6:4. She is a talented player who by the time of her triumph in Wanju was already firmly establishing herself among the top places of the world junior ranking and was regarded as one of the most promising young players of her generation, which gives the tournament additional weight in the eyes of analysts tracking future stars of the senior tour. Owing to the small number of editions held, detailed title statistics and long-standing traditions of the tournament are still taking shape, but the very fact of its J300 category points to the significance of the event in the calendar of the Asia-Oceania junior zone.
