Santo Domingo

About the tournament

J200 Santo Domingo is an ITF junior tournament held on the outdoor hard courts of the Dominican capital. During its existence the tournament has changed its category and name several times: before the 2019 reform it was listed as Grade 2, then came to be called J2, and in recent years it has become established under the code J200. One edition of the tournament was cancelled, circumstances typical of the Caribbean region during the pandemic period. The tournament is among the traditional stops of the Latin American junior calendar, attracting players from the countries of the Caribbean basin, North and South America, for whom it serves as a convenient preparation point before travelling to larger international events. Santo Domingo is also known for its tennis traditions thanks to the adult RD Open (ATP Challenger) held alongside it in the calendar, which creates a unified tennis infrastructure in the city. Among local players who competed in junior tournaments of the region, including Dominican events, it is worth noting Nick Hardt, a native of the country who later reached the quarter-finals of junior Wimbledon and other Grand Slam tournaments, showing that the Dominican tennis school is capable of producing players of international level.
