About the tournament

Beijing is the Chinese stop on the tour, a WTA 1000 category tournament known as the China Open. It has been held since 1993 on outdoor hard courts; since 2009 the competition has been hosted at the National Tennis Center in Beijing. The women's tournament long held WTA Premier Mandatory status, the tour's highest category alongside the Grand Slam events in terms of mandatory participation, and after the WTA's reform it became known as a WTA 1000 event. From 2009 to 2019, an ATP 500 men's tournament was also held in Beijing alongside the women's event. The record for the most titles in women's singles belongs to Agnieszka Radwanska with 2 wins (2011, 2016). The tournament boasts one of the largest prize funds on the WTA calendar.
