The second Chinese hard-court event of the same category, in Chengdu, went to A. Davidovich Fokina. In the final, he beat H. Hurkacz 6-4 7-6. Just like in Hangzhou, the champion did not drop a set, but in the second set Hurkacz took it to a tiebreak. Both men’s finales of the week were straight-set matches, and both were tighter than the scoreline suggests.
Hurkacz moved up in the ATP rankings from 39th to 32nd over the week, collecting 200 points. However, in rank.tennis data they are recorded as the semifinal of China Open 2026. His total rose from 1285 to 1485 points.
WTA. Fernandez in Singapore, Birrell in Seoul
The week’s top women’s trophy was decided on the Singapore hard courts, and it went to L. Fernandez. The final against T. Gibson was a contrast in styles. The first set was almost even and ended 7-5, while Fernandez took the second without losing a game, 6-0. The final score of 7-5 6-0 shows that after a hard-fought start, her opponent never managed to turn the match around.
The WTA 250 in Seoul was won by K. Birrell. In the final, she beat M. Joint 6-4 6-2, with both sets going to the winner. Together with Singapore, these are the two hard-court conclusions in Asia, and in both cases the champions did it without a third set.
The WTA 125 series was the busiest stretch of the week. There were routs and three-set dramas alike. The most dramatic final came in Ankara. B. Cengiz lost the first set to T. Kostovic 2-6, then levelled the match in the second, 6-4, and edged the decider 7-5. The final score of 2-6 6-4 7-5 made it the week’s biggest comeback among WTA events.
Three sets were also needed in Adana, where L. Jeanjean defeated L. Boisson 7-6(3) 4-6 6-4. Jeanjean took the first set in a tiebreak, dropped the second, and then completed the job in the third. The title also stands out in the rankings. According to rank.tennis, Leolia Jeanjean earned 125 points for winning Adana and moved from 109th to 94th.
The match in Porto was won by M. Timofeeva against R. Brantmeier 7-6(8) 6-2. The first-set tiebreak went beyond the standard seven points and finished 10-8, after which the second set was much calmer. A similar pattern emerged in Tolentino, the only clay-court event among the champions. Y. Grabher beat G. Reales 7-6(5) 6-2, a tense start and a confident finish.
The quickest of the WTA 125 finals was the match in Jingshan. A. Shubladze beat D. Bouzas Maneiro 6-3 6-2, the only final in the series that finished without a tiebreak or a third set.
Among the men’s events below ATP level in this week’s data, there was the Challenger 125 in Saint-Tropez. T. Droguet won it by beating A. Mayo 6-3 7-5 in the final. The first set was fairly comfortable, while in the second Mayo stayed in touch until the end.
Doubles. Ten pairs with trophies
The doubles draws added to the week’s picture at each of the champion-level tournaments. In Singapore, the doubles title went to E. Routliffe and A. Sutjiadi, while in Seoul the winning pair was C. Chan and W. Wu. On the men’s side in China, L. Johnson and Y. Zielinski stood out in Chengdu, as did F. Cabral and D. Tracy in Hangzhou.
The doubles results at the WTA 125 events look like this. In Ankara, V. Falkowska and A. Smit won, in Porto F. Jorge and M. Jorge took the title, and in Tolentino E. Gorgodze and D. Papamichail came out on top. In Adana, the title went to A. Moratelli and V. Valdmannova, while in Jingshan M. Brooks and A. Rajecki were the strongest. At the Challenger in Saint-Tropez, the doubles trophy went to J. Paul and M. Vocel.
Rankings. Shanghai-2025 expires before Shanghai-2026
The main ATP ranking story is tied to last year’s Shanghai: points from that event started to drop off. According to rank.tennis, the biggest fall belonged to Arthur Rinderknech: from 33rd to 62nd, down 29 places. He lost 650 points from his Shanghai 2025 final, and his total dropped from 1520 to 870. Valentin Vacherot lost 1020 points for last year’s Shanghai title. The 200 points from the semifinal at Japan Open 2026 did not offset the loss, and he fell from 18th to 34th, from 2250 to 1430 points. Zizou Bergs lost 200 points for the quarterfinal at Shanghai 2025 and moved from 38th to 46th, with his total standing at 1120 points.
Those moving up in the ATP were the players collecting points in Tokyo and Beijing. For reaching the semifinal at Japan Open 2026, Jaume Munar earned 225 points, lost 100 from last year’s Shanghai and climbed from 64th to 52nd, exactly to 1000 points. Kyrian Jacquet added 100 points for the quarterfinal in Tokyo and moved from 86th to 74th. Alex Molcan rose from 96th to 82nd with 75 points for the round of 16 at China Open 2026. Yunchaokete Bu earned 50 points for the same stage in Beijing and entered the top 100, moving from 104th to 94th.
Among the women, Katerina Siniakova dropped the most: from 55th to 86th, down 31 places. She lost 245 points for the quarterfinal at Wuhan 2025, and her total fell from 1075 to 855. Shuai Zhang lost 20 places, dropping from 57th to 77th. Mccartney Kessler moved from 77th to 95th, Maya Joint from 75th to 92nd, and Katie Volynets from 74th to 87th. All three lost points from last year’s Beijing, Wuhan or Suzhou.
The best result among the players climbing in the WTA was posted by Sinyi Kraus: plus 21 places, from 95th to 74th, thanks to 120 points for reaching the round of 16 in Beijing. Tatjana Maria rose from 84th to 71st, with the main boost coming from 100 points for the title at the W100 in Templeton. Leolia Jeanjean’s surge after her Adana title was already noted above.
The ITF junior rankings saw the biggest jumps among the boys. Samim Filiz climbed from 138th to 94th, up 44 places. Koki Nara moved from 73rd to 30th, and his total rose from 849,25 to 1291 points. Cooper Kuo gained 30 places and moved from 95th to 65th. Among the girls, Jahnie Van Zyl moved up from 107th to 74th. Savva Rybkin fell from 55th to 87th, and Iva Marinkovic from 62nd to 93rd.
What’s next. Beijing, Tokyo, Shanghai
Shanghai is the one to watch above all. Rinderknech and Vacherot have already lost the points for last year’s final and title, so any result there will count as a gain for them. One level below, the ITF event in Quinta do Lago runs from 28 September to 5 October with $60k in prize money. From 5 to 11 October, the WTA 125 events in Samsun and Suzhou will be played, each worth $115k, along with the clay-court Challenger 75 in Braga with a €98k purse. The week’s results are based on api.tennis data, and the ranking movement is based on rank.tennis data.
