Dayana Yastremska defeated Maja Chwalińska in the round of 64 at the WTA 1000 tournament in Beijing 6-3, 6-1 to reach the round of 32. The Ukrainian is ranked No. 106 with 692 points and is unseeded in the draw, while the Polish player was seeded 17th. The tournament is played on hard courts, with a prize fund of $9.4 million.

Path through the draw and form

Before Beijing, Yastremska had two first-round defeats, both in three sets: at the US Open she lost to Lucrezia Stefanini 3-6, 6-4, 1-6, and in Monterrey to Janice Tjen 6-2, 3-6, 6-7(5). In Beijing, she opened with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Caty McNally in the round of 128, and then beat Chwalińska. In total, she has two victories at the tournament without dropping a set.

Chwalińska arrived in Beijing after reaching the semifinal in Singapore. There she beat Alexandra Oliynykova 6-0, 6-1 and Elise Mertens 6-2, 6-2, and in the semifinal she lost to Leylah Fernandez 6-1, 4-6, 2-6 after winning the opening set.
