Daniil Medvedev has reached the semifinal of the ATP 500 China Open in Beijing. In the quarterfinal, the Russian, seeded third, defeated Argentina's Francisco Cerundolo 7-6, 6-3, according to api.tennis. The tournament is being played on hard courts, with prize money totaling $4.1 million.
The first set proved the toughest. The two players went to a tiebreak, in which Medvedev came out on top. In the second set, the Russian closed out the match more comfortably, 6-3, sealing victory in straight sets.
Path through the draw
Medvedev has yet to drop a set in Beijing. In the round of 32, he defeated Pablo Carreno Busta 6-4, 6-2, and in the round of 16 he beat Jan-Lennard Struff 6-4, 6-3. Among the Russian's recent matches is also the final in Hangzhou, where he beat Andrey Rublev 7-5, 6-4. Cerundolo, playing unseeded, reached the quarterfinal with wins over Botic van de Zandschulp 5-7, 6-4, 6-3 and Jakub Mensik 6-3, 6-3.
According to rank.tennis, Medvedev sits seventh in the rankings with 3610 points. Cerundolo is 20th with 2170 points. The two players already met in 2026 in Miami, where Medvedev won in three sets 6-0, 4-6, 7-5.
