Daniil Medvedev beat Jan Lennard Struff in the round of 16 of the ATP 500 China Open in Beijing, 6-4, 6-3. The win sent the Russian into the quarterfinals. Medvedev, the third seed, is ranked seventh with 3510 points (rank.tennis).
The match was decided in two sets, with no need for a final set, and there were no tiebreaks in either the first or the second. api.tennis has no data on the game-by-game flow inside the sets, so the bottom line remains the same: Medvedev closed out the match without complications.
Road to the quarterfinals
Medvedev has not dropped a single set on the way in Beijing so far. In the round of 32, he beat Pablo Carreno Busta 6-4, 6-2, then came through against Struff. Before the China Open, the Russian won the AITO Hangzhou Open final against Rublev, 7-5, 6-4, and in the semifinal of that tournament he defeated Safiullin, 7-5, 6-4.
The head-to-head now looks like this: out of 12 meetings, Medvedev has won nine and Struff three. The previous meeting belonged to the German, who won 7-6, 7-6, 7-5 at Wimbledon-2026. The Beijing match was a response to that defeat. Before it, Medvedev had beaten him in Lyon and Dubai in 2025, as well as at Wimbledon-2024. Struff, meanwhile, had defeated the Russian in Halle in 2021.
