Denis Shapovalov of Canada beat Chile's Alejandro Tabilo in the round of 16 at the Japan Open in Tokyo 7-5, 3-6, 6-4 to reach the quarterfinal. The ATP 500 tournament is being held on hard courts and has a prize fund of 2.4 million dollars, api.tennis reports.
Shapovalov is competing in Tokyo unseeded. In the round of 32 he defeated Sho Shimabukuro 7-5, 6-1. In the opening round, Tabilo routed Tommy Paul 6-1, 6-2.
According to rank.tennis, Shapovalov is ranked 41st with 1195 points, while Tabilo sits 30th with 1555 points.
