Roman Safiullin defeated Shintaro Mochizuki 6-2, 6-3 in the second round of qualifying at the Rolex Shanghai Masters. The ATP 1000 event is being held on hard courts in Shanghai, with a prize pool of $11.2 million, api.tennis reports.
The Japanese player could not repeat his first-round script
Mochizuki, seeded 15th at the tournament, lost the opening set to Taro Daniel in the first round of qualifying (2-6), but then won the next two, 6-2 and 6-2. Against second seed Safiullin, there was no such turnaround: the Japanese player did not take a single set.
According to rank.tennis, Safiullin is No. 77 in the rankings with 744 points. Mochizuki is No. 124 with 456 points.
