Muchova fails to win a game in the second set
Muchova kept the opening set close at 6-3. The gap widened to its maximum in the second set, which Bartunkova won 6-0. The match ended without a deciding set, and Muchova was unable to add to the games she won at the start of the match.
On her way to the quarterfinals, Bartunkova beat Magdalena Frech 6-2, 6-2, then Aryna Sabalenka 6-4, 6-3. Her round-of-16 match against Sinja Kraus went to a deciding set and ended 6-0, 4-6, 6-3. Bartunkova again advanced without dropping a set against Muchova.
Muchova had earlier beaten Katie Boulter 7-6(3), 6-1, Liudmila Samsonova 4-6, 6-4, 6-2, and Naomi Osaka 7-5, 1-6, 7-6(7). After playing deciding sets against Samsonova and Osaka, her run in Beijing ended in the quarterfinals.
