Daniil Medvedev beat Jan Lennard Struff 4-6 6-4 6-3 in their round-of-64 match at the Rolex Shanghai Masters, an ATP 1000 event with a prize fund of $11.2 million played on hard courts. The victory sent the Russian into the next round. According to api.tennis, Medvedev was seeded fifth in Shanghai.
How the match unfolded
Struff took the first set 6-4. Medvedev responded with the same score in the second to level the match. The Russian won the deciding set 6-3 to close out the match 2:1 in sets.
Struff began his Shanghai campaign with a 6-4 6-4 win over Martin Landaluce in the first round. The match against Medvedev was the German's second and final match at the tournament.
The two also met at the China Open. Medvedev beat Struff 6-4 6-3 there in the round of 16. Before that, he beat Pablo Carreño Busta 6-4 6-2, then defeated Francisco Cerundolo 7-6 6-3 in the quarterfinals. Medvedev is currently seventh in the rankings with 3510 points, reports rank.tennis.
