Both sets decided in tiebreaks
Sawangkaew won the tiebreak in the first set to take the lead. Bondar forced another tiebreak in the second, but the outcome was the same. Neither set was decided without an extra twist, and both went Sawangkaew’s way.
Before facing Bondar, Sawangkaew beat Maya Joint in Wuhan, 4-6, 6-2, 7-6(3). After losing the opening set, she leveled the match and won the deciding set in a tiebreak. She managed to finish her match against No. 7 seed Bondar in straight sets.
