Japan's Naomi Osaka, seeded 12th in Beijing, defeated 20th seed Sara Bejlek of the Czech Republic 7-6(4), 6-4 in the round of 32 to reach the round of 16 at the WTA 1000 tournament with a prize fund of $9.4 million.
The previous round was tougher for Osaka, who needed three sets to beat Maria Timofeeva 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 in the round of 64. Bejlek opened her campaign with a 6-3, 7-5 win over Maddison Inglis.
